New chicks

We got new chicks! There are now twelve fuzzballs running around in the small pen I made for Spicy. She seems to be a good influence on the babies, teaching them how to be good chickens.

Half of the new arrivals are Australorps and half are Ameraucanas. John, James, Amanda, and Madeline enjoy the fluffballs as they run around their pen.

The pen is about six feet by twelve feet, made with plastic-covered 1-inch hexagonal wire fencing and covered with garden netting. They have a wooden box we shut them in at night. The ceiling is hardware cloth with corrugated roofing on top. You can see a corner of the red roofing in the second photo. The little house kept the black snake out. I discovered the serpent pushing under the roofing, confounded by the wire underneath.
