September 27 – Rick drove us up to the Skyline Drive where we spent an hour or so watching migratory birds head South. Our count was two bluebirds, six monarch butterflies, two hawks and three jays.

Early in September, Mary found these caterpillars devouring an ornamental shrub. They were identified as “red-humped caterpillars” by a RappNetter.
